Life beyond the living room
· 4 min read

A well-lit garden doubles the size of a home on summer evenings. A badly lit one disappears behind the glare of a single floodlight.
Keep light low
Light from below eye level, with bollards along paths and uplights in planting, lets you see the garden and the view beyond it. Light at eye level only shows you the light.
Light the vertical
Trees, walls and hedges give a garden its shape at night. One uplit tree does more than ten lit paving stones.
Protect the dark
Choose luminaires with full cut-off and warm colour temperatures, and put them on a timer. Your neighbours, the wildlife and the stars will thank you.
