Small details. A lasting difference.

Recessed linear light following a stair wall

The difference between good and great lighting is rarely the fixture. It is the decisions around it. Here are five details we check on every project.

1. Colour temperature, consistently

Mixing 2700 K and 4000 K in one view makes both look wrong. Choose one warm white for living spaces and keep it consistent across every fixture, lamp and strip.

2. Colour rendering above 90

A CRI of 95 or more makes timber, skin and food look the way they do in daylight. Below 90, reds turn brown and plaster turns grey.

3. Glare you never see

A deep-set optic or a low UGR rating keeps the bright source out of your line of sight. You should notice the light on the table, not the point it comes from.

4. Dimming that goes low

Most rooms are used at 20–40% in the evening. Dimming that stays smooth and flicker-free down to 1% is worth more than extra lumens at the top.

5. Placement relative to walls

A downlight 300–500 mm from a wall draws an elegant scallop. At 1,000 mm it simply lights the floor. Measure from the finished wall, not the ceiling grid.
